This culture assay is used for the qualitative detection and isolation of Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma spp. from clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis of suspected genital mycoplasma infections.

Test Limitations:

Other Mycoplasma species (M. buccale, M. faucium, M. orale, M. salivarium, M. fermentans, M. penetrans, etc.) may also hydrolyze arginine, producing a positive broth result; further confirmatory identification is required. False-positive broth color changes may result from alkaline metabolic byproducts of filamentous fungi or Candida spp.; subculture to plated media is required to confirm.
