Clinical Info:

To aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients suspected of having homocysteinuria or hyperhomocysteinemia, and to screen patients who may be at risk for heart disease and stroke.

Sample Collection:

Collect patient samples using standard phlebotomy techniques. Click here for additional collection instructions. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible after clotting.

Test Limitations:

Patients taking S-adenosyl-methionine, methotrexate, nicotinic acid, theophylline, nitrous oxide, L-dopa, can have falsely elevated HCY levels.

Specimen Handling Instructions:

Stable refrigerated, room temperature not recommended.
